The Hindu who rejects Hinduism

From the Indivisible Brahmam Mahavishnu, came Brahma from whom came the 8 Manasaputras whence came The race of men. (Vasishta’s words to Janaka, Ramayana’s Balakanda)

From the navel of Paramapurusha emerged the cosmic lotus whereupon sits the creator Brahma. (Manushastra)

The omnipresence of God can be felt throughout the span of creation and He is present everywhere without, around and outside the realms of creation. (Vedas)

Worship Me alone. Be My devotee. Know that all the gods and goddesses and races of creation emerge from Me, because of Me, and without Me they cannot exist. (Krishna’s words from Bhagavad Gita)

I penance upon Vishnu for He is the Paramatma. (Shiva’s words to Brahma from Garudapurana)

The side on which stands Krishna Paramatma is the side that has already won the battle even before the battle has started. (Vidura’s words to Dhrtarasthra, Mahabharata)

Hail to Vyasa — the manifestation of Vishnu Himself. (Bhishma’s words from the Mahabhrata)

So basically, the Vedas, Shastras, Itihasas, Puranas are all unanimous in their agreement that God — The Supreme Indivisible Creator is The One within Whom resides all creation and without Whom creation could not even exist. Furthermore, they agree that while so many Devas and Devatas do exist, Paramatma is their source and Paramatma is One. I am reiterating Hindu scripture’s supremacy prior to asking one question — Is there anyone calling himself ‘a Hindu’ who says that God doesn’t exist? And that too after all the above has been stated categorically?

Yes there is, and his name is ‘Sadhguru’ Jaggi Vasudev.

Science in its modern avatar and its proponents have made ‘God’ a bad word. Say it before a camera and get ridiculed. While the sheeple want to avoid such ridicule, their inherently Hindu identity is not something they want to let go of. So, they make a psychological barter to appease themselves — trade God out of the equation while retaining the superficial aspects of culture such as clothing, language, etc. That is pretty much the same as driving out a person’s soul from their body and inviting their corpse over to tea. Not long back, an atheist acquaintance of mine who professed to be a follower of Jaggi told me the same thing — that he follows ‘Indian culture’ but not any of the Indian gods.

So let us actually analyze that point — Indian culture.

1. How did we get our culture?

We got it because our forefathers have always lived to their level best by the code of the Varnashrama Dharma. The Varnashrama Dharma defines the duties of each of the 4 kinds of descendants of Manu, and hence, those duties get imprinted on a person’s behavior as their inborn cosmically ordained actions get repeatedly performed by them and their entire bloodline. And thus, this behavior pattern’s creation leads to a culture’s creation. In India, we as Hindus do notice often that someone ‘looks Brahmin’ or ‘looks regal’ or ‘looks like a pariah.’ What does that mean? It means that their forefathers’ sincere practice of the Varnashrama has lent certain visible qualities to their descendants who probably don’t realize the value of what they have.

2. Where did this social code of Varnashrama come from?

From the Vedas and Shastras. I need not even go into this any further.

3. Where did the Vedas and Shastras come from?

From God. Mahavishnu’s eternal game of creation and destruction gives the Jeevatmas a means to manifest in a bodily manner and this in turn creates various kinds of creations — each tracing its cosmic descent back to a primordial Vedic forefather who in the case of the humans in Kashyapa, the Brahmarshi who was the father of Vivasvan the sun god who in turn fathered Vaivasvata Manu. These creations have the cosmic supreme knowledge — The Vedas too look up to for guidance, and we, as Manavas (Manu’s folk), have the Shastras to follow. The Vedas are thus not just God given knowledge but God’s own supreme manifestation, for Krishna Himself puts it in the Bhagavad Gita, that He is the ‘Saamagaanam’ of the Samaveda as He is the Vedas’ source and in them He manifests Himself.

4. What is a temple then and is it valid to worship there according to our scripture?

Temples are places where God is worshipped according to the Agamashastra whereby a rigorous regimen of invoking His grace through various scripturally ordained rites and rituals is instituted. Krishna Himself states that any valid image of Him is good enough to worship (provided it is shown care and respect as one would show God Himself if He came as a guest to one’s house). Thus, if you wish to worship before a mountain or a forest, you can do so by invoking The Paramatma as the Supreme Antaryami of that place. The Vedas and Shastras are unanimous in this for Krishna’s Bhagavad Gita itself merely reiterates and summarizes what the Vedas state. Pseudo-scholars and frauds have been known to state that the Vedas say no such thing. To them, here is a question — then why is the Yajurveda full of prescribed rites and rituals which are carried out daily at most temples? To them this will be a rhetorical question as they would not even understand what the question means.

Is he even a Hindu? Can anyone this brazenly rejecting the Vedas and then preaching atheistic rejection be a Hindu? Definitely not! You would be doing a service to Dharma by letting fellow Hindus know about this atheist masquerading as a scholar, as his belief in God and the scriptures of Hinduism are as real as is the lion that eats grass or a spitting cobra that vomits sugar syrup. Or you could stay ignorant, follow this atheist and convince yourself that you’re a Hindu. Sadhguru is good at human psychology after all; if he could cure you from your depression and PTSD, he could very well convince you of his sainthood by citing Shiva, Yoga and Agamas. The choice is not really yours if you’re already his follower.
