A more Realistic technique to Positive Thinking

Positive Thinking has become a big topic especially after the movie ‘The Secret’ that took the world by storm a few years back.

I remember how it changed my life as a young teen. Growing up, God was always the main focus in all i did. He was like that close friend who was always there for a conversation to share tough moments with and that feeling of comfort and encouragement that came with it, knowing that things could change for the better and strangely, through honest sharing through prayer and faith, things always somehow worked out..

Then one evening, i was invited to watch ‘The Secret’ and my perspective of Life was given a boost as i somehow wanted to “Create” everything i ever wanted.. Positive Thoughts was my mantra always and it was going so well until i started to become aware that i wasn’t allowing myself to feel negative emotions anymore as i shoved them out, without the usual honest conversations i used to have with God growing up.

Just as ‘POSITIVE THINKING’ brought me up the peak, it suddenly crashed me down into the depths of myself. I just started to feel a whirlpool of darkness pulling me down when all i wanted was to stay up above the clouds.. and slowly positive thinking became my worst nightmare..

Slowly from that inner crash, i was drawn to investigate the matter understood how positive thoughts were important but they were nothing without Self-awareness.

I know many may be thinking that this invisible field is not a big deal and does it even exist but just like Radio waves, WiFi waves or even electricity.. they too are invisible to the naked eye yet have any impact on electrical devices.

Going back to Positive Thinking, i’d have to say that the best technique to really make positive thinking work in your life, is to imagine a weighing machine in front of you. The left side holds the negative thoughts and perspectives we have about any given situation and that is what our brains would normally highlight just because not many know but the brain actually is working for our survival and tries to protect us against possible threats. So it’s obvious that the first thoughts would be on that side of the weighing machine yet practice being aware of that side while also asking yourself what would be on the right side of the ‘Positive’ bowl of the weighing machine.

This can be really helpful when we face fear, anger or judgement towards another person too. This exercise will allow ourselves to be open to both sides and through practise, we will train our brains to be more open to the “Right” way forward.

Let your life be a dance between thoughts of survival and revival and expect the journey to be meaningful one :)
