FIXING STUFF AROUND YOURSELF

It was a very hot day when I along with my friend visited a friend’s house for our project. Our friend was facing difficulty in finding out notes from his study table in his room. So we both decided…

What is the Diagnosis?

Since as far back as I can remember I have been sick and feeling like I have the flu, daily. I was always miserable with no relief and put on so many medications, antibiotics, hormone therapy and nothing was helping me.

One day, I was 35 years of age, with two small children, studying to earn my degree and working a full-time job, and my body had an “episode”. I felt so tired, gaining weight, sweaty, heart racing, shaking, and I believed I was in real danger. I was rushed to the emergency room where the doctors performed several blood tests and they saw something unusual in my blood work, it was related to my thyroid.

I found a great endocrinologist, suggested scans and more bloodwork and then a biopsy of the thyroid to get to the bottom of things. The doctor and her team found that I had nodules on my thyroid that was causing me some trouble, and shortly after a second opinion, part of my thyroid was removed.

Years passed and my body seemed to be okay, never truly cured, with some adjustments to make in my diet and exercise, as well as a medication that I will have to take for the rest of my life (a thyroid hormone drug), to help regulate the organ. I tried different homeopathic treatments to try to give me energy, or wellness, something, but nothing helped.

In 2017 my body felt its worse again and I was in constant pain, fever, cold and flu symptoms, with severe abdominal pain, headaches and a new symptom, swollen lymphnodes. I saw multiple doctors and I was not getting any answers. One doctor ordered an MRI and saw that there was a stone in my gallbladder and it was causing some inflammation. After a few months of review the doctor was convinced that the stone in my gallbladder was causing my ailments this time around. My surgery was scheduled and my gallbladder was removed.

Several months past and I was not feeling better, nor was my stomach or lymphnodes any better. I changed my diet again, to a low fat, low grease meal intakes, but still no change in the way I was feeling. My body was not gaining any energy, and my frustration was growing. My anxiety became unbearable, as well as my depression. I sought out a therapist to help me through this difficult time and my struggles.

Five years past and had seen countless doctors for my swollen lymphnodes; I was tested for cancer and had a scare but it was all benign, but very stressful and annoying. I had dizzy spells, and eating was a struggle, I found relief in nothing, only more pain and symptoms. I sought out an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, to investigate why I was constantly having sinus infections and to test the lymphnodes, if possible. That specialist then referred me to see an allergist/immunologist.

Enter the allergist/immunologist, who ran a series of skin tests, many showed positive allergies, and many were also inconclusive. The specialist then request my blood to be tested for environmental and food allergies, and we were shocked to find out that I had many food allergies, but never knew of them, and somehow survived them all. These results explained why I was constantly feeling ill, especially after eating, and drinking. This was the answer as to why my lymphnodes were swollen and painful, the dizzy spells, the flu symptoms and headaches, all due to allergies!

I immediately cut out all the foods and drinks that I was found to have allergies, and in just two days I was feeling such relief. My lymphnodes began to shrink, my stomach was not in pain, my head was not in pain, my skin was not itchy, I did not feel sinus issues, and I was finally on my way to feeling good, healthy, strong. I am grateful for the doctors who advocated for me and believed me, when many wrote off my symptoms to anxiety and panic disorder. Yes, I was suffering from mental health issues, but they were brought on by the physiological symptoms being experienced. This also taught me to look for the possible simple solutions. I am now doing much better and able to enjoy my life for the first time in many years.
