Love for Cooking!

Growing up in a typical Indian household, the kitchen was strictly off bounds for me. I was fascinated watching the swift wielding of spoons and spatulas by my food experts at home. Smelling the sizzling aromas and impatiently waiting to taste the appetising delicious food was my routine. Cooking was portrayed to be a highly specialised area of expertise which was well handled by my grandmother. My idol I should say.

Looking back ,my people at home were always a prey for all my cooking experiments no matter how it tasted- they always stood by to encourage and course correct me which has pushed me to be a better cook today. My first experiment was when I was 8 years old — when I prepared a special ginger-cardamom tea for my grandma. The amount of ginger and cardamom was very important and I managed to clear the first test. My granny appreciated me for my efforts which motivated me to try harder the next time. From tea to starters to a full meal :)thats how my expertise grew. I prepared vegetable pulao and egg curry and served it to my granny and mom with all loads of love . I was blessed saying I would be a good cook in future (ha ha.. Glad it came true). After series of cooking experiments of my own, I discovered the wonderful world of food bloggers and television shows on cooking of which Master chef was my favourite.

Perhaps all well fed kids live in the bubble of not trying out much till the day they leave home.Such independence initially thrives on restaurant meals; take outs, junk food and cup noodles for a considerable period of time. But eventually the nostalgia for home food becomes a full blown cause for depression. And then the shocking truth reaffirms that you are doomed to a life of financial independence but bad food experiences.

I find cooking as a very relaxing task to be engaged in. Hunting through the refrigerator, collecting the ingredients, preparing them and putting them together to make something delicious, puts me in a much relaxed mood .I have never felt stressed while cooking.I was always fascinated by the flavours and colours involved in cooking a recipe. The aroma and the goodness of each ingredient in a dish has always been a surprise to me. For me it starts from cutting the ingredients till the final plating of the dish. Cutting vegetables is also equally important as of the final taste of the dish. Every dish has its own uniqueness with the flavours involved in to it. As I was interested in cooking from my childhood I have always thrived to master it. My cooking experiments started again once I shifted from the hostel setup to an apartment. Earlier,I used travel a long way for my work and I have always gained strength to cook my dinner rather being a returning customer to Swiggy and Zomato. I was so obsessed with cooking, that weekends for me were filled cooking party. When others enjoy what you have cooked and give you comments about the food, you feel overjoyed, proud and accomplished. Especially when words of praise come along, deep down you are definitely enjoying the moment. Hearing the words such as “this is so amazing” or “this tastes really good” motivates me to cook even better the next time…

My weekend cooking party — Throwback 2016

Food to me has always been about cooking and eating with those you love and care. Simplest thing in life gives the most joy and cooking a good meal is definitely one among them.
