Changing Interaction of visual in Power BI.

When working on Power BI report, we sometimes want to keep a visual unchanged while selecting other charts. We can be able to do that by changing the Interaction of visuals.

I will show you how to do that with my ‘Global Covid-19 dashboard’ that I’m currently working on. In this dashboard, I have 2 parts, the first part is to display all the figures of Covid-19 around the globe (left-hand side). The second part is to display some figures of any selected country (right-hand side). When I select a country, I do not want the world’s figures to changes dynamically. Hence, this is what I will do:

First, select a visual that you want to use to control all the other visuals. In my Dashboard, I will select the Slicer ‘Search Country’

Then go to Format → Edit Interactions

Then, your will see number of options on every visual on the Dashboard. But we will just look at the second option from left to right. It says ‘None’. That means when you select it on whichever visual, that visual won’t be affected by the visual/filter that has been put in place.

In my Dashboard, I want all my global figures to stay unchanged when I select any country from the search. So, I will click ‘None’ on all the charts that represent global figures. This is the result I got.

Now let’s change my search and see how it works. I’ll choose ‘New Zealand’. My global figures are unchanged, and I have New Zealand’s figures on the right-hand side.
