My love for type and the hand lettering challenge

I am obsessed with typography. I often find myself looking at billboards and ads on the subway and recognizing the font being used. Some of my friends think I’m crazy when I randomly shout out “Oh look, that’s Futura Bold right there!” I also judge things based on type (don’t judge me!). But it’s true! If you want me to love your brand, you’ve got to make me love your design. The other day I walked right by a restaurant because their menu was set in Comic Sans! What?!

I like to think that I’m good with typography (yes, there’s always room for improvement), and I’ve dabbled in creating a typeface (it’s SO hard!), but I have always been intimidated by hand-lettering. I have so much awe for people who can draw letters beautifully. If you are one of those people and are reading this post — Kudos to you!

So today is my first day and I am so excited to share this! Follow this post for the next 26 days to see my journey in hand-lettering and completing the #handletteredABCs challenge. I wanted to make this challenge more fun — so along with the letter of the day, I’ll be drawing out a word that begins with the letter as well. Hope you enjoy my journey as much as I will. For those of you who have always been intimidated by hand-lettering like me, this is your chance! Come join me!

A is for Always. Always believe in yourself and always keep trying. Never give up! B is for Breathe. No matter how busy or stressful our lives get, its important to slow down for a moment and just breathe! C is for Cherish. Remember to cherish the small pleasures of life! Of course today’s letter+word had to be in green with tiny pots of gold. Hope you have a lucky day! PS: C is a hard letter to draw!
Today’s letter is D. I’ve always loved dancing. I was watching some old dance videos of mine today and realized how much I miss dancing. Never miss a chance to dance! E is for Equality. We must work hard every single day to finally bring about equality in every sphere of life, be it amongst race, society, education, or gender. Be kind to everyone :) It’s the perfect day for the letter F because F is for friendship and today is my best friend’s birthday! We have been friends for 18 years and I couldn’t be luckier!
G is for Grateful. I am so grateful for everything in my life. I feel so lucky to be able to pursue my dreams of being a designer, living in New York City, and having such amazing friends and a loving and supportive family. What are you grateful for today? Today’s letter is H, and today it has to stand for humanity. Where are we headed toward? Pray for Humanity, Pray for Brussels! I is for Imagine. Albert Einstein said, “Logic will get you from A to Z, Imagination will get you everywhere.” Everything you imagine can be real!
J!! A joyful spirit will take you a long way, and today is the perfect day to be joyful! Today’s letter is K and it stands for Knowledge. Knowledge is power, how powerful are you? Today’s letter is L! Spend time with loved ones, and laugh a little more. It’s good for you! :)
M🌹Easter day has such great memories associated with it. Two years ago was my first Easter egg hunt and last year I was a part of a trio of flower girls in the NYC Easter parade. Memories are timeless and always bring a smile :) N is for Namaste. “The divine in me honors the divine in you.” O is for observe. Sometimes you can learn a lot by just observing, yourself and others.
Y: To yearn is to be filled with compassion and warm feelings. What are you yearning for today? Z! Bring in positive energy, enthusiasm and liveliness to your daily lives! Add some zing to you life ✊🏾

I can’t believe the challenge has come to an end! I enjoyed working on this so much! A big shout out to everybody who followed me through this journey and appreciated my work!
