This Is What My Stats Look Like After Writing 8 Articles in 20 Days

My Accountability Journal — May 2021 (First Month)

This is going to be my accountability journal to keep track of my progress on Medium. I will be writing it on the 1st of every month to make a month on month comparison and update my readers. Well, I am a finance professional, I love numbers!

First, let me show you the stats for last 20 days, then we can talk…

As of 1st May 2021 , 10 am IST

To begin with, I would count the views as 76, as the article I posted on 1st June had 3 views. And as I am writing, my total views are 196 (More than 100% spike in a day). We’ll talk about that in my next accountability journal — June 2021. So, see you June, you are going to be remarkable.

So, I posted my first article on 11th May and as you can see, I did not get a single view for 3 days. Then, I posted a finance article that was picked up by a small publication. It keeps getting 1–2 views every day.

After that, I wrote a couple of articles that completely bombed. The 6th article that I wrote on Quentin Tarantino’s writing style, that one got curated. I got more than 10 views on the day I posted, and that’s my most read (not viewed) article for the month of May. I know it’s less, but for me, it’s a success by rookie standards. I have just started playing the game. Long way to go.

Ok, all that’s fine but what about the money?

Unfortunately, Medium doesn’t have their Partner Program available for my location, i.e. India. Are you even listening Medium? (I know it’s Stripe, but fix it ASAP).

To keep things a little interesting, I have devised a way to calculate my hypothetical earnings.

For 76 views, I should have earned around $0.91. I know that’s peanuts! But, something is better than nothing. (It’s actually nothing, because I am not getting paid).

It’s not about the money though. I find Medium as an outlet to express myself through words. And you never know, when Medium might initiate the Partner Program for India soon.

Coming back to the accountability factor. I feel that noting down the progress is an intensely satisfying activity. It’s like having an accountability partner (readers). It will help me know if I am going off track.

I don’t intend to post every day, but use Medium as a tool to build a good habit of writing each day.

Apart from writing articles about my learnings, I also intend to write short fictions. I don’t how well would that be received on Medium. But, some articles are reserved for the joys of writing.

Signing off!

Here’s an article I wrote that you might find interesting,
