The Most Important Things I Learned About Myself After Dropping Out of School.

I dropped out of my Master’s Program and this is what I learned…

Dropping out of my Master’s program was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made. The safety net of school provided me with comfort, and more or less, something ‘good’ to tell others that I was doing that made me feel validated.

As time went on, however, I eventually realized that I had only accepted the program because I thought it sounded ‘good’ and what bad could additional education do? It was only later that I realized that while there is nothing inherently wrong with school, it IS WRONG if you’re doing it to tell others you’re doing something worthwhile. You have to do things for the right reasons.

Telling my friends, family and loved ones that I no longer wanted to partake in school was hard — but figuring out exactly who I was, was even harder. I extracted five key lessons from dropping out of school, that I look back on now and feel forever gratitude for. I hope these lessons provide you witha glimmer of hope if you happen to be going through a difficult time in your life, as well:

While this life is short, you can truly become whoever you’d like to be and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Trust your gut and be very aware of the vision you want to create for yourself — that will guide your day to day actions in the right direction every single day.
